OFFICIAL RULES AND REGULATIONS
- Chili must be pre-cooked and brought to site.
- Site location for cook-off is at Dillon Park. Individuals/teams may begin set-up of their site starting at 4:30 pm, Thursday, Oct. 11,2007. There will be a cook’s meeting at 5:30 pm on site. HEAD COOKS MUST attend.
- Each individual/team must provide their own chili and pot(s), heating unit, thermometer, gloves, serving spoon, washing station, chairs and table. If you would like to bring a tent, feel free to (please limit tent size to 10’x10’). Decorating your site area is encouraged.
- If you are heating with electricity, please bring extension cords. It is recommended to keep your chili warm by using a camp stove or a propane heater. Electrical hookups are limited.
- We will provide: sample cups, spoons, crackers and an official judge’s sample cup.
- All SC DHEC rules and regulations will be followed. Chili should be brought to site chilled to 45degrees in small (quart) containers. Chili will need to be heated to 165 degrees and then to 130 degrees for serving. (Any inquiries to DHEC regulations contact Mr. James Arthur at 773-5511.) DHEC employees will be on site for inspections.
- Chili needs to be heated and ready to serve at 6:30 pm.
- JUDGING SAMPLES WILL BE PICKED UP AT 6:15 pm from each booth. Sample must be taken from pot of chili being served to the public.
- Each individual/team is required to cook a minimum of two gallons of chili. However, individuals/teams are encouraged to prepare additional. A minimum of one quart of heated chili will be needed for judging. (We will provide judge’s sample cup.)
- Chili will be judged in the following categories: AROMA, CONSISTENCY, COLOR, TASTE AND AFTERTASTE. The decision of the judges will be final.
- You must have someone on hand to serve the chili and to clean up before leaving.
- Wristbands will be sold to the public. Please only serve chili to those with wristbands. (Wristbands: Adults- $5.00, Children Under 12 - $2.00)
- Individuals/Teams may not sell any drinks or other food at this chili cook-off. Drinks will be available for a fee.
- Winners will be announced at 8:00 pm.
Prizes will be awarded as follows:
First – Trophy and $300
Second – Trophy and $200
Third – Trophy and $100
Peoples Choice – Trophy and $100
Best Decorated – Trophy and $50
